Early-careers at Greensys 2027

This section is designed by and for early-career scientists and professionals. Are you a PhD student, or are you in the first phase of your career? During GreenSys 2027, we are doing our best to ensure that early-career researchers and professionals are actively involved and have an enjoyable and enriching conference experience. To support this goal, we have created an Early-Career Group dedicated to developing initiatives that respond to the needs, interests, and expectations of this community.

Travel grant for a Young Researcher from South America

A travel grant will be available to support the participation of a young researcher from South America at Greensys 2027, with the aim of encouraging participation from this important horticultural region in the world. The grant is a contribution towards the costs of attending GreenSys 2027 in Wageningen (6-10 June).

Please note that the deadline to be considered for the grant coincides with the abstract submission deadline: 1 October 2026.

For Greensys 2027, we have an enthusiastic, diversified and international group to ensure, as much as possible, that the needs, interests, and expectations of early-career professionals are well represented. The group includes:

We aim to enhance the experience, participation, and engagement of early-career scientists and professionals during the symposium.

We have designed a short survey to collect your ideas, preferences, and suggestions to help us co-design a symposium that better reflects the interests and needs of the early-career community.

Who are we?

Teresa Piovano

Bologna University (UNIBO), Italy

I am a PhD candidate at the University of Bologna working on sustainable food systems, with a focus on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and vertical farming. My research combines controlled-environment experiments (e.g., LED spectrum effects on plant growth and secondary metabolites) with environmental and energy assessments to support evidence-based decisions in CEA. I am motivated to join the Greensys Early career group to help build an inclusive, interdisciplinary community and to represent the needs of early-career researchers. For GreenSys 2027, I hope to strengthen networking and mentoring opportunities, increase the visibility of young scientists, and create practical spaces for skills exchange, collaboration, and career development.

Faustine Kasongi Enos

Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO), Norway

I am a biosystems engineer with a research focus on controlled environment agriculture, integrating sensing technologies, dynamic modeling, and control strategies to improve resource efficiency and crop performance. I am motivated to join the Greensys Early career group to connect with other young researchers, exchange ideas, and gain insight into shared challenges in our field. I see this as an opportunity to learn from peers, build meaningful research collaborations, and contribute to activities that reflect the needs and perspectives of early-career scientists at GreenSys 2027.

Eve-Marie Boudreau-Forgues

Université Laval (ULaval), Canada

My research focuses on improving fertilization strategies for highbush blueberries grown in pots under high tunnels, in greenhouses, and in open-field conditions. Throughout my studies, I have emphasized the use of biostimulants, such as silica and plant growth–promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), to enhance mineral nutrition. I would like to be part of the Greensys Early career group to support early-career researchers in defining their purpose, finding motivation in their work, and having a space to share their experiences and emotions related to pursuing studies in horticulture. My goal is to help young scientists feel that they belong at the table and to encourage them to be proud of the meaningful contributions they are making.

Adilson Aderito da Silva Filho

Ecoflora Brasil

My research and professional work focus primarily on floriculture production management in high-technology greenhouse systems. I concentrate on optimizing crop performance through precise climate strategies, fertigation management, radiation control, and data-driven decision-making, while leading technical teams to ensure consistent quality and productivity

I am motivated to join the Greensys Early career group to strengthen the role of early-career professionals in greenhouse production. At GreenSys 2027, I hope to foster networking, mentorship, and practical discussions that connect science with commercial floriculture operations.

Caterina Carpineti

Wageningen University & Research (WUR), The Netherlands

I am a researcher at Wageningen Plant Research working on increasing quality and production while efficiently using resources in Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA). My aim is to optimize high-tech systems, primarly vertical farming, by combining plant physiology, smart technologies and cultivation expertise to steer crop quality while maximazing yield with minimal resource use. I am motivated to join the Greensys Early career group to contribute fresh ideas, create inclusive activities and connect with fellow young scientists. Within GreenSys 2027, I hope to support a community where young professionals can grow and feel represented by building bridges across carrer stages and with industry.

Bouchra Darkaoui

University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P), Morocco

I am a research engineer at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), Ben Guerir, Morocco. My research focuses on sustainable and resilient horticultural production systems, with an emphasis on resource-use efficiency and climate adaptation. I am motivated to join the Greensys Early career group to actively engage with early-career researchers, contribute to scientific initiatives, and represent young scientists’ perspectives. At GreenSys 2027, I hope to promote networking, mentorship, and career-development opportunities that enhance visibility, collaboration, and professional growth for young scientists

Isabella Righini

Wageningen University & Research (WUR), The Netherlands

I am a researcher in Greenhouse Technology at Wageningen Research and a part-time PhD candidate within the Horticulture & Product Physiology group at Wageningen University, focusing on production efficiency and resource use in controlled-environment agriculture for urban and peri-urban areas. Since 2024, I have been a member of the ISHS Young Minds Committee, representing Europe together with 11 other representatives worldwide. In this role, I contribute to activities aimed at improving the inclusion, participation, and engagement of early-career scientists and professionals within the horticultural community. As a "GreenSys 2027" co-organizer, I am bringing this focus to the symposium by actively involving early-career researchers and creating opportunities for their participation and engagement.
